Spin, Spin, Jab, Jab, Spin!

I know, I know - I havent posted for aaaaaaggges! I'm really not very good at keeping things like this up to date. I have the best of intentions but life just gets in the way :-)

As someone who admits having been "allergic" to exercise for a big part of my life, I am pleased to dicovered that I can actually enjoy it!
I am now doing three spin classes a week in my lunch breaks - two 45 min classes and one of a full hour (the instructor for this one is mad as a hatter, and really make the class fun)! And what's more, I hope to continue doing at least some of them after I am back from Jordan.
I am also cycling 10-15 miles a couple of evenings a week AND 20-30 miles a day at the weekends.

All this is not quite as much as the training guide recommends, but its not too far off, so I am feeling relatively OK about the challenge ahead. That is, until I see the first "mountain" (OK, hill) we have to contend with - I am just hoping that adrenaline kicks in to fill any gap my training has left!

What about the Jab, Jab of my title?

A sore point, literally - I had to get some vaccinations yesterday. A Tetanus/Dip/Polio jab in one arm & a Typhoid/HepA jab in the other :-( so although I don't have any "needle issues", I do have 2 sore arms!
The silver lining in this particular cloud is that the lovely doctor at work has very kindly waived the charge for my injections, as my trip is for charity :-) Thank you Dr Terry :-)

Only 3 weeks to go !!!!

Eeek!!!

Oh my goodness, look at that ticker! Less than 5 months to go..........

.....I'm not ready! BUT I WILL BE :-)
I am determined to prove (not least to myself) that I can do this. I still have a lot of training to do but the distance doesn't really worry me so much now... it's the hills that are worrying me! LOL.

Year-End mania (any fellow accountants will do doubt sympathise) is in full flow at work, so lots of overtime being worked & an exam fast approaching in early June are at the forefront of my mind right now, but once the exam is over I will be free to completely concentrate on my cycling.

Fundraising has gone well, with plans afoot for a final grand curry night (the previous ones were great fun and very popular) and a boot sale to help me on the way to that £2500 target. I think I will still need around £300 so PLEASE PLEASE if any of you are able to support this very worthy cause, please pop over to my justgiving page & add a donation no matter how small - it all counts.

Before I go, and in an attempt to make up for such a long time between updates on this blog, I will leave you with some pictures to laugh at!
Be honest...does my bum look big in this? (actually, don't be too honest! LOL)
Home again, HOT n sweaty but feeling good.... hope someone's put the kettle on!
:-)
Bye for now

New Year, New Start!

OMG, I didnt realise it was quite so long since I last blogged!

Happy New Year everyone :-) 2009 is certainly going to be a busy one.

It is AGES since I last got out on my bike - after my exams in December I was madly rushing around trying to get ready for Christmas and then I came down with a nasty flu bug which knocked me for six, I really didnt feel well for around 2 weeks which is so unusual for me I cannot remember having been ill for that long ever before. Still, I am almost back to 100% now and keen to get back into the swing of things..

Santa was very good to me (Thanks Hubby) ;-) and amongst other things, I received some new leggings (with compulsory padded bum!) and some toe bars - or whatever the correct term is - for my bike. Both will be tried out very soon.

On the fundraising side, things are going well - the 2 curry nights last year were good fun & successfully raised over £300 between them. I also sold some Christmas cards and notebooks which I had made and my Secret Santa at work gave me a £20 donation instead of "wasting £10 on some tat you dont want" :-) Thank you John, that was a very generous and much appreciated gesture :-) Once I have updated my justgiving page my total so far will be over £1400 :-)

Onwards & upwards.....

Curry Night Success :-)

Well, the last couple of weeks have not been very good for my training (dark nights, rain, cold, hubby on shift meaning no one to look after Toby if I go out on my bike, plus dreaded exams looming in.....eeek! less than 2 weeks!!) BUT I have made great progress with my fundraising :-)

I held my first Curry Night fundraiser on Tuesday 11th November and was getting increasingly nervous during the days beforehand, especially when a couple of people had to cancel at short notice :-( Hubby stepped in to save the day, not only by keeping the numbers up with both himself and Toby coming along to join me and my colleagues for a FANTASTIC meal at The Empress in Leman St, E1. but also by paying the ENTIRE drinks bill for the evening, meaning that all contributions from those present could be added to the charity 'pot'.

Together with a couple of additional donations from those who had to cancel, we raised a whopping ONE HUNDRED & EIGHTY POUNDS!! :-D

Unfortunately I had forgotten to take my camera, so no photos to record the event but I have another curry night being held locally this coming Sunday so will take some then. (Am also getting to meet my brother-in-law and his family for the first time at this event, so if I didn't feel nervous before - I am now!)

Almost 4 weeks since my last post - tsk, must try harder!

What's been happening in the last 4 weeks? Well, I took part in a sponsored cycle ride for my local hospice - there was a choice of 12 or 24 mile routes along the Thames Path so I opted for 12 but along a different stretch of the path than I am used to :-)
It was a gloriously sunny Sunday, perfect weather for the ride and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I approached the finish I was thinking "next year I will definitely do the 24 mile route" - and then realised that if it is organised for the same weekend next year then I won't be able to take part as I will be in Jordan - and cycling an awful lot more than 24 miles!!

Training hasn't really progressed much over the last few weeks, partly due to lack of time (college/exams etc) and partly due to me not being well for a few days - but I am sticking to my twice weekly gym visits and weekend cycling whenever I can.
I had my first ever Personal Training session and it was so much fun I hardly realised I was working out - but boy! did I ache the next (few) days. I know that I will need to step up my training soon & I am actually looking forward to it! (I never thought I would hear myself say I was looking forward to more exercise!!)

My fundraising total has reached £970 to date - and I now have not one but TWO curry nights planned for November so I am hoping to see a good boost to my total next month.

This weekend I am going away for a Scrapbooking weekend, I am hoping to make a good start on recording the beginnings of my Journey to Jordan :-) BUT it is all-inclusive with lots of lovely food so next week will be back on the diet for me!!
